Apocalypse's Teacher - Chapter 49
Chapter 49
Let There Be Light (2)
***
Chun-bae’s arrival brought significant changes to Seokho’s life.
The most noticeable change was in Seokho’s nagging tendencies.
Ever since Chun-bae had taken up residence in the penthouse, Seokho had stopped giving life lectures to the kids that only an old man would.
There was a reason for this.
Whenever Seokho said something, Chun-bae, who was listening quietly, would interrupt.
For example:
“Ki-hyun, I heard you missed your English test again this week. If you keep this up, I won’t tolerate it any longer, understand? You can’t just do what you want in life…”
“Really? Says the guy who did only what he wanted.”
“…”
Or when he was reprimanding Jinwoo for indulging in inappropriate tastes:
“Jinwoo, so… have you been watching that stuff lately…”
“Leave him alone, kid. He’s at that vigorous age. Don’t be too harsh on him.”
“It’s not what you think, Mr. Heo.”
Or when he was scolding Hyesung for being a picky eater:
“Hyesung, it makes me sad when you’re picky…”
“Says who?”
Chun-bae’s constant interference deflated Seokho’s spirit.
Of course, no one sided with Seokho.
His discomfort with Chun-bae was his problem, and it didn’t become a group issue because Chun-bae adored the kids.
Seokho felt wronged.
He resented Chun-bae for always showing a kind face to the children while having done all sorts of inhumane things to him.
Chun-bae was well aware of this.
Why else would he make such comments?
It was because he found Seokho’s grumbling amusing.
Even today, it was the same.
When Seokho tried to scold Dabin for sneaking an egg, Chun-bae stepped in.
The look on Seokho’s face was priceless.
‘Life won’t be boring.’
It had felt like life wasn’t worth living for a while, but now he felt a bit more relaxed.
A broad smile spread across Chun-bae’s face as he reminisced about the morning’s events.

Suddenly, he noticed a small figure at the edge of his vision.
Chun-bae’s eyes narrowed.
‘That little rascal again.’
The small figure peeking from behind a pillar was none other than Hyesung.
An ongoing battle of nerves had been happening for the past few days.
Chun-bae felt a bit troubled.
‘You never know what kids are thinking….’
He had no idea why the child kept spying on him.
Even when he asked if she needed something, she would just shake her head, making Chun-bae feel increasingly awkward around Hyesung.
However, this was unimportant to Hyesung.
Ever since Chun-bae first appeared, she had been enamored with his shiny bald head.
She had no time to pay attention to his expression.
“Hehe….”
Hyesung’s mouth opened slightly.
Her eyes sparkled, reflecting the light off his bald head.
She wanted to touch it.
What would it feel like to rub that shiny head?
Would she also become bald if she touched it?
Or would only her hands become bald and shoot lasers?
Lost in her fantasies, Hyesung wore a dreamy expression while Chun-bae’s shoulders twitched.
His instinctive aversion was coming to the surface.
A peculiar standoff ensued.
Chun-bae sighed deeply and made a decision.
‘She must be bored.’
It seemed the child was bored.
That’s why she was interested in a new person.
So, it was up to him to keep her entertained.
With that thought, Chun-bae stood up.
Hyesung flinched and hid behind the pillar.
He didn’t think she disliked him.
He could see her bottom wiggle in excitement.
A smile emerged on Chun-bae’s face without him realizing it.

‘How long has it been since I saw a child like this….’
Since the world ended, had there ever been such a bright child?
A sentimental feeling washed over him, causing his forehead to wrinkle before smoothing out again.
“Hey, you.”
When Chun-bae called out, Hyesung peeked out her head.
Her face was full of curiosity and mischief.

With her big eyes and the mysterious goggles on her head, the little girl answered.
“Yes!”
“Why do you keep staring? Am I that interesting?”
Hyesung nodded.
To her, Chun-bae was an endlessly fascinating person.
Isn’t it?
Despite his age, covered in wrinkles, his bald head was smooth and white like a child’s skin.
Hyesung was so fascinated by his shiny head that she felt like she wouldn’t be able to sleep unless she touched it.
Slowly, Hyesung approached Chun-bae.
Chun-bae raised his eyebrows.
Wrinkles formed on his forehead, but his bald head remained smooth and shiny.
The old man and the child were now close enough to touch.
Hyesung swallowed hard and spoke to Chun-bae.
“Your head… is a laser!”
Chun-bae chuckled.
She had been saying this since the moment they met, and it seemed cheeky yet endearing.

“It’s not a laser, you rascal.”
“Yes, it is! It’s shiny and sparkly!”
Hyesung pretended to shield her eyes with her hands.
Chun-bae laughed and replied.
“Look at this rascal. How about I tickle you?”
“You’ll tickle me with a laser?”
“No, I’ll just tickle you.”
Chun-bae’s hand went to Hyesung’s side, tickling her.
She squirmed and laughed.
“Heeheehee!”
“You shouldn’t say such things to your grandpa, okay?”
“Heeheehee!”
Hyesung twisted and turned under the relentless tickling until Chun-bae finally let go.
She panted, nodding her head, feeling exhausted but inexplicably happy.
“Grandpa is the tickle monster…!”
“That’s right, I’m a terrifying tickle monster.”
Chun-bae mimicked a tiger and roared, “Roar!”
But Hyesung wasn’t scared.
Mainly because she didn’t know what a tiger was, and also, no matter how scary he pretended to be, his shiny bald head made him look comical.
Hyesung just giggled and said to Chun-bae.
“Grandpa!”
“Yes?”
“Can Hyesung touch your shiny head?”
Chun-bae tilted his head, not understanding the word ‘shiny’ immediately.
Luckily, the confusion didn’t last long.
Hyesung’s hand reached towards Chun-bae’s head, and he realized what she meant by ‘shiny.’
“My head? You want to touch it?”

Chun-bae chuckled.

He didn’t mind at all.
In fact, he felt oddly proud that she found his bald head so fascinating.
He willingly leaned his head towards Hyesung, and she happily placed her hand on it with a joyful exclamation.
“It’s so smooth!”
A new world she had never known was revealed to her.
Chun-bae’s hairless head gave Hyesung a fresh shock.

She shivered with an indescribable feeling and slowly started moving her hand.
“Shiny, smooth…!”
Hyesung’s tiny hands stroked Chun-bae’s head.
She rubbed it with all her might, but it was still just the strength of a child.
Chun-bae simply smiled, thinking of it as a playful massage from a child.
“Shiny, smooth!”
Excited, Hyesung placed both hands on Chun-bae’s head.
Her movements were filled with energy and excitement.

At this moment, Hyesung felt all her worries about catching baldness disappear.
She even thought it would be okay to become bald.
Touching a bald head in exchange for becoming bald didn’t seem like a bad deal.

Her hands moved busily, and she energetically repeated the words “shiny, smooth.”

Chun-bae was just happy to see Hyesung so excited, and she loved the smoothness of his head.
It was an ideal scene where everyone was happy.
However, for an observer, it was a scene fraught with danger.
Seokho, who had rushed over upon hearing Hyesung’s exclamations, turned pale.
“Shiny, smooth!”
“Hehehe.”
Hyesung happily stroked Chun-bae’s head while he chuckled.
To Seokho, this was a dangerous sight.
It was a matter of perception.
Seokho had the narrow-minded belief that being bald was embarrassing and pointing it out was disrespectful.
“H-Hyesung! You shouldn’t do that!”
What happened next was simply an extension of the events since Chun-bae’s arrival.
When Seokho scolded Hyesung, Chun-bae defended her.
The kids’ affection for Chun-bae grew, and Seokho continued to suffer in silence.
Seokho felt wronged.
