Magic Academy's Genius Blinker - Chapter 194
Chapter 194
Everything Frozen (7)
The coast of Leviang, Lisbond Port.
In a certain tavern.
“Now that’s a spectacle.”
As one adventurer said this while downing beer after beer, the other adventurers nodded in agreement.
“It sure is.”
“My goodness, to think they’d break through the Eternal Whirlpool that no adventurer has ever conquered, and so easily at that.”
“That’s the power of capital.”
Th i s w a s c op i e d f r o m ki ng m t l .o rg
“And technology too.”
Queen Hong Seriu was performing what could only be described as madness, using the finest magic that far surpassed that of ordinary adventurers and capital worth hundreds of millions.
However, none of them knew why the queen had suddenly set out towards the Black Cross.
“Is there something to find there…”
“Haven’t you heard the news, man? There’s talk that they’re looking for that place to break the curse of the ‘Flower of Fire’ passed down in the royal family.”
“What? But that would be a national secret. How could someone like you know about it?”
“Look at those troops over there. How can you keep thousands of mouths shut? Besides, there’s no real reason to keep it secret.”
“That’s true, I suppose.”
While the adventurers chatted about the queen’s expedition, they gazed out towards the distant sea.
The sight of five massive airships advancing towards the pirate ship in the frozen giant whirlpool was quite spectacular, enough to serve as entertainment with their drinks. The tavern windows, usually closed to keep in the heat, were wide open.
“You’ll be punished by heaven!”
Just then, a shrill cry rang out from the street. As if recognizing the owner of that voice, the adventurers grimaced.
“That drunk old man’s at it again.”
“Puhaha! It’s kind of funny to listen to sometimes. He claims he even hunted Rainbow Drakes back in his day.”
In the street was an old man stumbling along with a bottle of liquor in one hand. He shouted and gestured towards the queen’s airships.
“You mustn’t disturb the vengeful spirit of the Pirate King! You’ll surely incur his wrath! You’ll be punished by heaven!”
“Come on, give it a rest…”
Just as the adventurers were about to say something to the man ruining their pleasant drinking session.
…Kuung!
A shockwave emanated from the distant sea, and strong winds swept through Lisbond Port.
Whooooosh-!!
“Ugh!”
Rattle rattle!
Windows and doors shook violently, and trash and newspapers flew about the streets, forcing pedestrians to stop in their tracks.
And then, everyone in Lisbond Port witnessed it simultaneously.
“What in the world is that…”
“What…”
A red waterspout connecting the blue sky and blue sea.
The red color was quite out of place, but it was so intense that it made all the surrounding blue seem faded in comparison.
T h i s wa s c op i e d f r o m k i ngm t l . o rg
As even veteran adventurers stared at the sky in a daze, the drunk old man waved his bottle high and shouted.
“It’s a calamity! A calamity has come upon us! Surely the Pirate King’s wrath has been incurred!”
“Old man! Be quiet!”
The Pirate King’s wrath?
There’s no way the Pirate King could use fire magic of that scale. That must surely be a performance by Queen Hong Seriu. People wanted to firmly believe that, but.
“Damn… is that really coming this way?”
The flames engulfed even the clouds, then began to rain fiery embers down upon the sea.
Sizzle
As the sea melted and refroze repeatedly, the landscape twisted in an instant, causing all the residents of Lisbond to begin evacuating.
Th i s w a s c o pi e d f r om k in g m t l . o r g
“Damn it!”
“We’re done for if that reaches here!”
“Run for the buildings!”
But…
The calamity wasn’t over yet.
Thud
Another shockwave, different from when the pillar of fire formed. Followed by a roar.
Hooooooooo…
That terrible scream, as if someone were wailing, struck all the pedestrians in Lisbond.
“Kuhek!”
The scream seemed to electrify people’s very instincts. Those with weak constitutions collapsed unconscious on the spot, while even the veteran adventurers with good stamina all fell to their knees.
Meanwhile, the drunk old man remained standing, blowing on his bottle and shouting in a heavily intoxicated voice.
“Ooh, the Pirate King comes. The Pirate King comes…!!”
They wanted to believe it was a lie. They wanted to dismiss it as the ravings of a drunkard. But unfortunately, the old man’s words were true.
Across that sea.
From the pirate ship that had been frozen for a thousand years, an enormous blue figure rose up with its massive body.
A being taller than mountains, with a head as large as the pirate ship and red eyes as bright as the pillar of fire.
That gigantic vengeful spirit wearing a pirate’s uniform had finally fully awakened, and roared towards the world.
* * *
How did it come to this?
Queen Hong Seriu.
Her judgment had never once been wrong before.
She was the one who had turned everything others thought “impossible” into “possible”.
Born as an illegitimate child and starting at the bottom of the royal succession, she had finally become an 8th class mage and the queen of the great Adolevit Kingdom…
She feared nothing. She had dismissed even the ancient legends of her ancestors as mere superstitions.
But she did have a sense of duty. To protect Adolevit by extinguishing the spark of the Flower of Fire.
She thought this was the only way. Even when all her subjects said no and expressed concern, she pushed forward.
Because.
She had never failed once in her entire life doing things this way.
Hooooooo…
“Ugh!”
But what in the world was this?
When the giant skeleton, taller than the airships floating in the sky, turned its gaze towards her, Hong Seriu’s legs froze stiff.
“Y-Your Majesty!”
“Your Majesty!”
“Great Sun!”
“Please save us!”
The people bowed their heads and prostrated themselves before her, and even the finest magic knights could do nothing in the face of this enormous calamity, desperately calling out for the queen.
After all, the queen was the one who had created this entire situation, and she was also an 8th class mage.
But.
This was.
‘Impossible…’
It was beyond the scope of what humans could comprehend. This was literally an ‘act of nature’ that could not be resisted.
‘…No. I must still face it.’
Hong Seriu used her staff to prop herself up and struggled to her feet.
‘Because I am the queen.’
Just as she had managed to face the Pirate King with such difficulty.
Schwing! Kuung!
“Ugh?!”
Thi s w a s co p i ed f ro m ki ng m t l . o r g
Enormous blue chains imbued with demonic energy shot up from the pirate ship, ensnaring all five airships.
Fortunately, they didn’t crash thanks to the engine output, but… now escape was truly impossible.
The vengeful spirit of the Pirate King slowly looked around the world, then glared intently at Hong Seriu.
-So you’re the one who woke me with your fire games.
T h i s w a s c o p i e d fr o m k i n gm t l .o r g
“I am Hong Seriu, queen and descendant of the great Adolevit. State your name.”
-My name is… Black Bellize, the Pirate King.
He finished speaking as his red eyes flashed.
-As per the ancient promise, the world must face an eternal winter in exchange for awakening me.
“No, I cannot allow that.”
Hong Seriu’s body slowly rose into the air as red magic circles formed in sequence, interlocking like gears.
‘…This is quite the predicament.’
With the Flower of Fire going berserk and causing a red calamity to cover the entire sky, and now the Pirate King Black Bellize declaring he would freeze the whole world, could there be a more hopeless situation?
One might think that mixing fire and ice would cancel each other out, but only those ignorant of science would say such a thing.
If the sky is covered in fire and the ground is filled with ice…
The earth will be completely annihilated, with nothing left.
‘I must prevent the worst case scenario.’
If she could stop at least one of these calamities, there might still be hope…
Whoooosh!!
“Ugh!”
Fierce winds blew, causing the flames Hong Seriu had summoned to scatter in all directions. Though the strong winds may have increased the power of the flames, what use was that if they couldn’t hit the enemy?
“Futile tricks!”
Th i s w a s co p i e d f r om k i n g m t l .o rg
Hong Seriu released her vast mana like the sea to erect a massive shield, then explosively unleashed the flames to strike at the Pirate King.
Kuung!
But when the king waved his palm, the flames were extinguished far too easily. On top of that, as an icy gale mixed with ice shards flew from his palm, she had no choice but to hurriedly fly up to dodge.
“This much is…!”
Hong Seriu ignited flames in both hands. As befitting an 8th class mage who was nearly the pinnacle among fire-element mages with the most powerful abilities, her magic was diverse and destructive.
Dozens of flaming ballistae formed in the air to strike the Pirate King, red meteors were summoned to fall from above the clouds, and she even performed the miracle of making flames bloom on the frozen sea.
Explosions, destruction, flames.
Each time the Pirate King’s eyes flashed red, enormous ice spears fell from above the clouds to pierce the sea, beautiful ice crystal-laced winds blew, and ice coral reefs grew from the sea to strike the airships.
Ice, blizzards, freezing.
It was truly a battle of fire and ice.
However, the battle was one-sided. No matter how much red she poured out…
Kuung!!
“Kuhek…!”
It was impossible to dye the Pirate King’s blue red.
Struck by an ice shard flying through the air, Hong Seriu crashed onto an airship and struggled to prop herself up off the floor.
“Not yet… it’s not over yet.”
But no sooner had she stood up than she was struck by an enormous flame, causing her to collapse to the floor once again.
“Heuuk!”
Just because she was a fire mage didn’t mean she was completely immune to fire. Perhaps because her shield had shattered just as a huge flame from the Flower of Fire struck, Hong Seriu could only fall to the ground, unable to regain her senses.
-Accept it. It is fate.
…
Though she tried to use her staff to prop herself up with both hands, she had no strength left. In contrast, the vengeful spirit of the Pirate King was still as powerful as ever, making the situation utterly hopeless.
“Ah…”
All the magic warriors of Adolevit fell to their knees at the overwhelming defeat of Queen Hong Seriu, whom they had believed in.
To make matters worse.
…Kwa kwa kwa kwang!!
At last, as if the Flower of Fire had completely gone berserk, the pillar of fire connecting earth and sky grew fiercer until it finally began to create red storm clouds.
As the ‘Wrath of the Fire Avatar’ from legend unfolded before their very eyes, everyone despaired.
Any further resistance was meaningless.
Now…
They had to prepare for death.
* * *
Emotions swirled.
That sentence was severely out of context. Emotions couldn’t literally swirl.
However, Hong Bi-yeon was directly experiencing that impossible phenomenon.
Anger, pain, and then despair again.
Th i s w a s cop i e d f r o m ki n gm tl . or g
As countless negative emotions flashed through her mind, the flames lying dormant in her heart ignited.
-Get angry. Be angry!
The courtiers who ostracized her.
The maids who subtly looked down on her.
The queen who openly discriminated against her.
Her sister who tormented her terribly.
-It was painful, wasn’t it? That’s the feeling! My goodness, you’re more like a descendant of fire than any fire bloodline I’ve ever seen! Do you know? Your ancestor ‘Adolevit’, the disciple of the Progenitor Mage, was exactly like you are now!
The voice kept whispering.
-She was always burning with rage. She converted her anger into flames. It was an astonishing power! Flames wielded through the power of anger are uncontrollable but incredibly destructive!
The voice seemed extremely excited.
T h i s wa s c o p i ed f r o m k i ngmt l . org
-Burning everything! That is the essence of magic and the magic of Adolevit, the great fire mage!
Perhaps it was feeling a familiar kinship after such a long time? That joyful emotion was transmitted so clearly even to Hong Bi-yeon.
-Yes… First, cover this entire sea in flames. Announce your existence to the world. Proclaim that the Fire Avatar has been reborn! That the true heir of Adolevit has appeared in the world once again!
It would be so easy to just follow the voice’s words. If she burned everything that made her suffer and struggle, she wouldn’t have to suffer anymore.
‘Let’s do it.’
But she kept hesitating.
‘Why?’
Burning every being visible before her was the true will of the flames.
But something kept telling her she shouldn’t do that.
It was…
The tiny speck of happiness that remained in Hong Bi-yeon’s heart.
Whenever her mind was about to be consumed by anger, the image of a certain boy would appear and disappear, gradually bringing Hong Bi-yeon back to her senses.
‘If I burn everything…’
In the end.
‘I’ll burn even my happiness.’
T h i s w a s c o p i ed f r o m ki n gm t l . o r g
I can’t do that.
Flash!
When Hong Bi-yeon opened her eyes, her red irises burned even hotter than the flames of the Fire Avatar.
-…Huh? This isn’t right?
The flames gradually subsided.
-This is new? Completely different. Different, I tell you. Until now… I thought Adolevit’s indiscriminate, rampaging flames were the true flames…
The pillar of fire connecting sea and sky slowly shrank, and the red clouds that had filled the skies above Leviang’s coast began to turn back into dark storm clouds.
-To be able to control uncontrollable fire like this! Haha! Yes, this is refreshing and interesting in its own way!
Finally, when the fire was completely extinguished.
Hong Bi-yeon was flying through the sky.
With a pair of fiery wings, she floated in midair.
“W-What is this!”
Someone cried out. Glancing back slightly, she saw knights in Adolevit Kingdom uniforms.
Feeling an especially intense gaze, she turned her head to see Queen Hong Seriu staring at her from where she lay collapsed on the ground.
“How is this possible…”
Impossible.
Of all the impossibilities Hong Seriu had experienced and overcome in her life, nothing could compare to what was before her eyes now.
Not only had she regained her senses while possessed by the Flower of Fire, but she was even able to clearly control the flames in the form of wings.
‘Could it be… she’s controlling the Flower of Fire?’
No one who inherited Adolevit’s blood had ever been able to control it.
Only one person.
In history, only ‘Adolevit’, the descendant of the Progenitor Mage, was said to have been able to wield it.
T h i s w a s c o pie d f r o m k ingm t l . o r g
It was an established fact within the royal family that touching the Flower of Fire was tantamount to suicide.
“I can’t believe it…”
Today, the people of Adolevit witnessed a miracle.
Because it was a miracle that bloomed like a single ray of hope in such a desperate situation… it could not help but be dazzlingly beautiful.
