Magic Academy's Genius Blinker - Chapter 89
Chapter 89
Familiar Contract Ceremony (1)
The next morning.
Hae Wonryang woke up in the Flower Tree University Hospital in the Heavenly Flower Cradle, staring blankly out the window.
The chirping of sparrows tickled his ears. He turned his head slightly to see Flame peeling an apple. She had a strangely excited expression.
“You know that situation where the patient wakes up and the caregiver is peeling an apple next to them? I’ve always wanted to try that at least once. Kid, you have good timing. Waking up just at the right moment? Huh?”
She said playfully, showing her white teeth. Hae Wonryang asked with a confused expression.
“Where am I…?”
“What’s this? Don’t you remember? We came to the Heavenly Flower Cradle for a field trip.”
Precisely, it was an on-site experiential learning. Normally, Hae Wonryang would have corrected that, but he wasn’t in the right state of mind to do so.

“Do you remember what happened?”
“Not really…”
“Is that so?”
Flame secretly sighed in relief. It was better if he didn’t remember. The memory of being controlled by a Dark Mage would be a shame for a mage.
Only five people knew about this incident.
Kaen and Hyeijin weren’t the types to go around blabbing such things, and they shouldn’t, given their positions.
Baek Yu-seol and Ma Yuseong decided to keep the fact that he had turned into a Dark Mage a secret to protect his honor.
If he found out he had become a Dark Mage, Hae Wonryang would drown in endless self-doubt. They were truly kind boys in many ways.
“Recently, you had an unidentified fever. It’s been completely cured now.”
“How…”
“How, you ask? I did it, fool. I’m a mage of light. Got it?”
“…I see.”
Hae Wonryang sighed deeply, touching his forehead. Somehow, his heart felt much lighter.

All the unpleasant feelings that used to prick his heart had completely disappeared.
Even when he thought of Baek Yu-seol or Ma Yuseong, he didn’t feel any jealousy or inferiority. Rather, only a fighting spirit surged within him.

‘…That’s your true self.’
Seeing Hae Wonryang’s eyes burning with determination, Flame felt relieved.

Then, their eyes met. There was still the same affectionate look in his eyes.
Feeling a bit sorry, Flame smiled bitterly.
‘There are so many pretty girls in the world. Why are you doing this…’
The saying that men and women can’t be just friends is a lie.
From a woman’s perspective, there are many times when they genuinely want to be friends with a man.
Flame had no feelings for Hae Wonryang beyond friendship. That was worrying. If he confessed, their relationship would break immediately.
Should she set boundaries in advance? How should she do that?
‘Is it because I’m in a romance fantasy world that I have to worry about relationships here too…’
When she lived in her original world, she was too busy with studies and work to think about romance, so this kind of worry felt very foreign.
“Instructor Lee Han-wol has checked your condition. If you want to participate in the Familiar Contract Ceremony, you can, but it’s better to rest. The aftereffects haven’t completely gone away yet.”
“…Okay. If you say to rest, I’ll rest.”
“Yeah, just rest. There might be nothing special at the Familiar Contract Ceremony anyway. It’s better than getting hurt.”
Hae Wonryang wouldn’t be able to contract with a Divine Beast at the Familiar Contract Ceremony anyway. He would contract with a certain Divine Beast much later… but that’s a story for much later.
“Then, rest well. I have to go because it’s almost assembly time.”
After Flame left, Hae Wonryang stared blankly at her retreating figure in the sunlight.
Now, no negative thoughts came to his mind. He didn’t remember what had happened, but he was sure it wasn’t something good.
Probably
Flame had quietly resolved it.
And she was trying to keep it a secret to avoid hurting him.
So he didn’t ask what had happened. It wouldn’t be polite to Flame, who had gone to such lengths for him.
Still, a faint smile appeared on his lips. The fact that she had made some effort for him made him happy.
He knew.
Flame didn’t have feelings for him beyond friendship.
An unattainable love?
It wasn’t that dramatic.
There were no issues with environment, race, or background, but purely an issue of emotions, they couldn’t be together.
So, Hae Wonryang smiled bitterly.
He knew, but…
Still, it would be hard to give up this love for a while.
That’s how first love usually was for teenagers.

The World Tree Birth Celebration had ended.

Even before the magical lingering feelings faded, the students of Stella had to immediately move on to the next schedule.
“From now, you will enter the roots of the Heavenly Spirit Tree to make contracts with the Divine Beasts. The place is a sort of subspace and will have a different environment from reality.”
At the entrance of the Heavenly Spirit Tree’s roots.
A thousand mage students, a place where even ordinary elves couldn’t approach recklessly, had gathered.
Inside the roots was a space where Divine Beasts could live. It was said to be a space created by the World Tree itself to protect the Divine Beasts, which were very vulnerable to the Dark Mana of Dark Mages.
As it was a very sensitive place, it wasn’t open to just anyone, and the security was very strict. Elf guardians were guarding the area around the entrance to the roots.
Instructor Lee Han-wol of Class S was explaining briefly to the first-year students.
T h i s w a s cop ie d f r o m k ing m t l . org
“You have a week. The space allowed to you is up to the ’13th layer’ of the roots.”
Aggressive and dangerous Divine Beasts were confined by the elf guardians below the 4th layer, and barriers were set to prevent them from escaping.
The magic of first-year students couldn’t possibly break through that.
“So, don’t even think about approaching the 4th layer.”
His voice, echoing like it was from inside a cave, carried an intimidating weight. It felt like you couldn’t disobey him.
As a delinquent student, I had no intention of listening to him.
If you proceed with the episode normally, the story unfolds entirely on the 3rd layer.
But sometimes, a few players would discover a ‘hidden passage’ by chance, allowing them to bypass the barriers and reach the 4th layer.
It would obviously be dangerous. But it was something I had to risk. The heart of a Divine Beast could only be found on the 4th layer, and ‘Red Spring March’ was also there.
Fortunately, my Bulbul Glasses had recorded hidden routes that countless players had discovered through trial and error to avoid the sight of the Divine Beasts.
“Our faculty cannot follow you down. This means you must take care of yourselves there. Understood? Don’t think about relying on anyone else. Survive on your own. Dismissed!”
As Lee Han-wol finished speaking, the students moved in a rush. They wanted to descend into the roots as quickly as possible. There was no need to rush.
The elf guardians, holding long staves, stepped aside from the entrance of the roots.
Stella’s students quickly moved beyond the barrier, and I walked slowly at the back to avoid being trampled. I could hear the students whispering.
T h i s w as c o p ie d f rom k i n g m t l . or g
“I heard that if you don’t go below the 1st layer, it’s not very dangerous.”
“I still want to go down to the 2nd layer. The wildlife there isn’t very strong and is quite docile.”
“Do you want to come with me? I also wanted to see something on the 2nd layer.”
Since there were rumors about potential dangers, the students tended to move with their close friends.
T h i s w a s c op i e d f r o m ki n g m t l . o r g
How were the main characters moving?
It would differ by branch, but in most cases, they would all gather in one place later.
A very special Divine Beast would appear on the 3rd layer, and they would all try to make a contract with it.
I planned to act carefully to avoid meeting them as much as possible.
After all, the happenings here would mostly involve the rivalry between Aiselle and Hong Bi-yeon, with Flame getting involved to conclude it.
Hong Bi-yeon and Flame’s personalities had changed significantly from the original, so I didn’t know what would happen, but surely nothing major would occur.
After a while, the students had mostly entered the roots. I followed behind and stepped into the barrier of the roots.
Whooosh!!
The flow of the air completely twisted, and the scenery flipped instantly.
[Episode 7]
[Familiar Contract Ceremony]
“Wow…”
And what filled my vision was a green landscape.
It wasn’t an ordinary green. To put it in my cheap expression, it was a space filled with glowing green.
All the green plants emitted light, and countless firefly-like creatures floated in the air, making the whole world bright even under the pitch-black ceiling.
Squelch!
“Ugh, what’s this?”
A glowing green liquid fell to the ground and slithered away. I thought it was a slime, but on closer inspection, it was a young Divine Beast without intelligence. It would take the form of an animal when it grew up.
“Oh… This is really amazing.”
When I poked the squishy Divine Beast with my finger, it wrapped around my hand as if a cat was rubbing its cheek. Clearly, the breathing training next to Spirit Leafanel had paid off. The Divine Beasts were attracted to me.
The green jelly playing with my hand soon seeped into the ground and disappeared.
That was enough sightseeing. There was much to do.
“All right, let’s get going.”
* * *
When most students had entered the space of the Divine Beasts, at the entrance of the roots.
The elf guardians checked the headcount.
“Confirmed entry of 1,139 students.”
“Really? Didn’t we authorize 1,141 students this year? One is hospitalized, but one is missing.”
“Well, it happens sometimes. No matter how brave Stella students are, some get scared and drop out.”
“Then they should not have aspired to be mage warriors.”
“They say the ones with no potential get filtered out by the second year anyway.”
“Really? Human schools are peculiar. At our Starflower Tree Magic School, even the weakest wills are dragged to the end.”
“Haha, everyone has their own way.”
“Our remaining duty is to guard this place until the students come out in a week.”
Th is w a s c op ied f r om k ing m t l .or g
“Shall we close the barrier then?”
Once the barrier of the World Tree was closed, no one could enter or exit.
But the senior guardian shook his head.
“Hmm, just in time, someone else is coming.”
“Oh. Looks like they were late while doing something else.”
“A Stella student wouldn’t do that. They must have been preparing something essential.”
“Indeed. It seems they didn’t flee after all.”
The approaching student had a peculiar appearance. They had their face completely hidden under a robe and their head deeply bowed. But since it was Stella, they understood. It was a place where many unique mages gathered.
The uniform and the pocket watch on their waist were enough to prove their identity, so they allowed them to enter. It wasn’t a difficult process.
Passing through the guardians and entering the barrier of the roots…
‘Ha.’
Maizen Tiren threw off her robe and smiled brightly as if she had the world.
‘Could it be any easier!’
She had endured until now.
A lot, really a lot.
She suppressed all her resentment, envy, anger, jealousy, and all those emotions towards someone who had humiliated her.
But now, there was no need to endure any longer.
[Dark Mana Erosion Progress: 49.99%]
[Dark Mana Erosion Progress: 50.00%]
[Dark Mana Erosion Progress: 71.84%]
Crack, crack!
Maizen’s face distorted grotesquely, twisted, and then returned to its original form.
‘Hoo!’
When she broke the ‘blessing’ that was suppressing the Dark Mana Erosion, a refreshing sense of liberation enveloped her body.
She felt an enormous power incomparable to before.
‘Haa… Yes, this energy.’
She half-dazedly imprinted the space of the Divine Beasts into her eyes.
Not even imagining that she could enter this space, where Dark Mages were forbidden, so easily.
Everything was going perfectly.
Thanks to a student’s death reducing the number of entries, she could enter without suspicion, and the ‘blessing’ from the cult leader suppressed the Dark Mana, preventing detection.
From now, Maizen’s task was simple.
Corrupt the Divine Beasts in the 4th layer with Dark Mana, then break the barrier to send them upstairs.
If the highly dangerous Divine Beasts, with at least a Risk Level 5, went berserk with Dark Mana, it would be a disaster for the first-year students.
But they had no escape.
No one could enter or exit this place for a week.
In that week.
T h i s was c o p i e d f r o m k i n g mt l . o r g
Maizen planned to absorb all the blood of the students.
The blood of promising mages would fully enhance the power of Dark Mages.
‘I look forward to a week later.’
Maizen, filled with pleasant anticipation, stepped deeper into the roots.
